"The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness."
We are ending a month of being drawn together to fast and pray and call upon God to send the cure for cancer. It has been a special month of unity in prayer towards a common request, but what happens next? The month in which we have seen God do great things is over, but does that mean that God is done doing great things? Absolutely not. Even when cancer is cured – we will still live in a fallen world. There will always be sickness, there will always be sin, and there will always be death.
There will always be God. There will always be His love. There will always be new mercies every morning.
It is this resolute love that we can trust and draw from to help us to live a steadfast life of our own. But, how do we do this? In Matthew 4 & Luke 4 – the Bible tells us that Jesus finished a 40 day period of Spirit-led fasting and it was then that Satan came to tempt Him in the wilderness. It was when Jesus was hungry and alone that Satan attempted to overcome Him. How did Jesus defeat Satan’s temptations? He unwaveringly quoted Scripture – every time. If there is anything that can keep us strong when we are physically, emotionally and spiritually weak and tired, it is Scripture.
The Bread of Life used the Word of Life to combat the attacks of the enemy.
We have the same weapon available to us! We must be ready for that next time – it will come. Luke’s account (4:13) says that “when the devil had ended every temptation, he departed from him until an opportune time.” We must strive to be steadfast and vigilant! Just as you have committed this month of November, continue to stay in the Word, continue to stay faithful in praying, continue to encourage one another in the faith and live a life that is steadfast and immovable, so that when Jesus returns for us, and we are given the final victory over sin, death and disease, we can triumphantly proclaim that “GREAT is HIS FAITHFULNESS!”
"Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father;
There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not;
As Thou hast been, Thou forever will be.
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see.
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided;
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!
Summer and winter and springtime and harvest,
Sun, moon and stars in their courses above
Join with all nature in manifold witness
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.
Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth
Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside"
